Objective To explore the effect of collaborative preaching based on 5W theory on functional exercise compliance and fear of movement in patients with patellar dislocation. Methods Eighty-two patients with patellar dislocation who received surgical treatment in our hospital from June 2021 to June 2022 were selected as the study subjects and divided into control group and observation group according to the method of consecutive enrollment convenience sampling, 40 cases in the control group and 42 cases in the observation group. The control group used conventional health education; the observation group was given synergistic education based on 5W theory on the basis of receiving conventional health education. After receiving the intervention, the functional exercise adherence scale, Tampa fear scale and functional exercise education satisfaction were evaluated, and the functional exercise adherence score, fear of movement belief level and education satisfaction were compared between the two groups after the intervention. Results After the intervention, the patients in the observation group had higher functional exercise compliance and satisfaction with missionary education than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05); the score of fear of movement beliefs was lower than that of the control group, and the difference was also statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusion The level of postoperative joint function in patients with patellar dislocation depends to a certain extent on the patients' motivation to participate in functional exercises. In this study, a collaborative education model based on the 5W theory was adopted to provide diversified education for patients by integrating the resources of patients, carers and medical personnel, which reduced the level of fear of movement and improved the patients' adherence to functional exercises and their satisfaction with the education.
