Objective: To investigate the effect of continuity nursing on cognitive function and adverse events in elderly patients with senile dementia. Methods: 70 elderly patients with senile dementia in our hospital from March 2014 to February 2015 were selected as the research objects and were divided into the observation group and the control group according to the random number table method of grouping, 35 cases in each group. Patients in the control group were given routine telephone follow-up and community intervention after discharge from hospital while patients in the observation group were given continuity nursing. The recovery of cognitive function and adverse events were observed in two groups of patients. Results: There was no significant difference in MoCA scores in patients between the two groups before the intervention (P>0.05). But after the intervention, MoCA scores in patients in the observation group score were significantly higher than those before the intervention and the scores in the control group had no significant changes. The score of observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of adverse events in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the differences of two groups had statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusion: The patients with senile dementia receiving the continuity of nursing intervention can promote the recovery of cognitive function and reduce the risk of adverse events, which is worth promoting.
